Blessed in Bohol

I arrived back here in Manila Monday after a great weekend in Bohol.  Sunday morning I had the opportunity to preach to a large crowd in Calape (this is where I spent most of my time).

That afternoon a couple of the local pastors took me to see the Chocolate Hills (they are green, not "chocolate," this time of year--but quite impressive nonetheless).

Thanks to everyone who invited me and hosted me this weekend!  It was an honor to be a part of this event and see this scenic part of the Philippines.

I wasn't able to take any pictures--my camera's battery charger is one of the "casualties" of the recent move (I'll find it one of these days).  But I think some pictures will be tagged soon enough over at my Facebook Page.

TLW@San Sebastian, Cavite

Yesterday (September 22nd) I did two True Love Waits presentations at San Sebastian College, Cavite.  Thanks to the guidance and counseling office for inviting me and being such great hosts (they even took care of my transportation).  Thanks to the students for attending and participating.  Feel free to email me any time if you have questions/comments.

Men Are Visual (Mark Driscoll)

Here's a video clip from Mark Driscoll, one of my favorite preachers. He discusses the visual nature of men in practical terms.

Eating With One Chopstick (Book Review)

It's an honor to read and review LJ Salceda's Eating With One Chopstick: Growing Up in a Single Parent Home.   LJ is a good friend of mine, so I've been looking forward the book's release.  I was not disappointed.

As the title implies, this book is LJ's personal journey of growing up without a father in her home.  She speaks openly of the financial, emotional, and spiritual struggles that have shaped her life.

I appreciate LJ's willingness to be so vulnerable in her writing.  Read this book and you will get a sense of brutal honesty, raw emotion, and tenacious hope all at the same time.

Speaking of hope, Eating with One Chopstick does offer Christ-centered hope and advice for those in single parent families (both children and parents).  The book even has several appendices with frequently asked questions, resources, etc.

I would highly recommend this book for those in single parent families and those of us who wish to better understand them.

Well done, LJ!

Son of a Preacher Man-Dusty Springfield (Music Mondays)

Time to go vintage: Son of a Preacher Man was originally recorded in 1968.

Manila Book Fair 2010 Schedule

Here's my schedule for the Manila Book Fair:

I'll be there the afternoon of Friday, September 17th.  At 3:00 p.m.  I'll be interviewed live on Inspirations Unlimited (DZAS) at the CSM booth.

I'll hang around to sign books, and I'll also be attending the grand launch ceremony later that evening at 6:00 p.m.

Here's the general information on the book fair:

Sept. 15-19, 2010, SMX Convention Center,  Mall Of Asia Compound, Pasay City.

Several of the CSM titles will be available for only 99 pesos (one copy per customer).  I've checked out there promo poster and there are some great books available.  Be sure to stop by the CSM booth and take advantage of the special price.

You can check out the CSM website for more information.

The Good-O-Meter

Here's a nice little skit about salvation, works, and grace.

Friday Night Youth Gig

Youth Gig: this Friday at 6:00 p.m.!

I will be the speaker and I'll be talking about homosexuality.  We'll look at what the Bible says and discuss it.

Feel free to join us at the Youth Life Student Center, located at Morayta across from FEU (right next to McDonald's).

Moving

My landlord contacted me a couple of weeks ago and told me I would need to move.  The owner of my place is returning from China and wants it back.  I'll be transferring to another unit in this same apartment complex within a few days.  I'm not looking forward to the moving process, but I am excited about the new place (I like the layout a little better than this one).

Anyway, don't be too surprised if I am not quick in replying to text messages and emails for the next few days.  I'm hoping PLDT can switch my phone/dsl at around the same time of the move, but we'll see.
